A Hot New Experience

In another effort to try new things and have new experiences, I attended my first Bikram ("hot") yoga class last weekend. It was ... well, it was an experience. I finally recovered from it two days and five pounds of water weight later.

Check out my FitnessRx blog about my experience and some lessons learned.

Have you ever tried hot yoga? What was your experience?

  1. I almost became a hot yoga teacher. :) So, I adore it and can't wait to have more time for it after contest prep.

  2. I love when I'm able to attend Bikram. For me, I use it as a way to sweat out "the ugly" (any negativity going on in my life)!

  3. I love it! I recently posted on how much I love Bikram - it's so different to my regular training and it really is a mental exercise more than anything. It becomes addictive! I've only been doing it for about five months and I can't imagine not doing it!

  5. I HATED IT! I actually tried it 11 years ago. My roommate at the time was an instructor so I tried it...HATED IT. Last year I decided to try it again. My first class, half way through, the guy standing next to me BROKE HIS HIP while doing a posture/pose thingy. The guy screamed and then immediately went down. I went to help (as did a couple others standing next to me) and the instructor told us to stop and that he would be ok. She made him stay there, lying on the floor, for 30 minutes while she finished the class. Only then did she go to his aide, call an ambulance, and get him help.

SO NO THANK YOU. I like my hips and if I ever got injured in a class I wouldn't want to have to sit around in a 110 degree sauna waiting for help. :))

  6. OMG - what an awful experience for that poor guy who broke his hip! In my class, one guy tried to leave, and the instructor told him he needed to stay the remainder of the class, even if he was just sitting there. I felt really bad for the guy, who clearly didn't want to be there.
