A Lesson in Preparedness

Remember a few weeks ago when I forgot my gym shoes at home and had to work out in flip-flops? Well, yesterday, when I got to the gym and dug through my gym bag, I realized I'd forgotten a sports bra. And it was Plyo day. Yeaaahhh. Sigh.

I made it through the workout without any mishaps or wardrobe malfunctions (thank goodness!), but it wasn't the most comfortable workout I've ever had.

As I experienced the sinking feeling of realizing I forgot a major article of clothing, I realized that this was a good lesson in preparedness. In that I need to be more prepared, since forgetting clothing seems to be a trend with me.

Tonight when I'm packing my gym bag, I'm going to be adding in a complete additional outfit to keep in my gym locker. I already have some essentials in my locker: deodorant, wrist straps, wrist wraps, comb, jump rope, shampoo, and conditioner. But a spare set of clothes will be added this week so there will be no future "I forgot THIS" posts!

What do you keep in your gym locker?

  1. Ha well my gym has thousands of members but only about 500 lockers so you don't get a designated one unfortunately. After forgetting my post-workout bra and panties for the upteemth time this week I decided to keep a spare set in my gym bag - I don't know why I never thought of this before!!

  2. Oh no! That's too funny!

  3. oh! cant tell ya how many times i have done that one! i always keep an extra workout outfit in my gym bag now (lockers are assigned do to large # of members and small # of lockers)
    it has helped big time!!!

  4. I prep my back the night before, because I hate travelling all the way to the gym and not having a complete outfit.

BTW, what are wrist wraps and straps for? My wrist has started to hurt after 3 days of lifting; would those things help?

  5. I always pre-pack and double-check before throwing my bag in the car. I could rent a locker at my gym, but I hate rotating gym clothes in and out so I just bring it in each time. I rarely forget after having forgotten a change of clothes once. I'm spoiled though as my gym is 10 minutes from home, so going back for gear is always a possibility. Merry Christmas!

  6. AL - Wrist wraps are for stabilizing my wrists. I have tendonitis in my wrists, so the wraps help take the tension off my joints. Straps are for moving heavy weights. I use them on back day for pulling exercises because my forearms fatigue faster than my back muscles do. I don't use wraps or straps for every workout - just the ones where I need help isolating muscles and preventing injuries and pain.

  7. Thanks for the info! Yeah, I think I'm going to have to start wearing wraps, because I have recurring inflammation in my wrist. I'll see what the specialist says.
