Ever since I gave myself an Attitude Adjustment and The People's Elbow the other day, I've been feeling a lot better! I've started focusing less on "I feel like crap" and more on "I can do this!"

Yesterday, when I walked into the gym, my friend Jenny asked me how I was doing. I was in the process of responding with my usual, "Meh, hangin' in there" when one of the trainers shouted to me, "GREAT! You're GREAT!" I changed my response to, "I'm GREAT!" and then repeated it to myself in my head, "I'm great!" I continued repeating it to myself throughout my workout, and wouldn't ya know - I had a GREAT workout!

It wasn't that I wasn't tired or sluggish, the difference was simply in my mind. By forcing myself to focus on the things that WERE great, in turn, I felt better. It's all about the power of positive thinking!
At the beginning of this week, J made a few changes to my diet and training program. I have to admit I was starting to stress about them a bit. I was worried I wouldn't have the energy to push as hard as I need to. I was worried I would feel hungry or miss certain foods that had been pulled from my diet.

All my worrying was a waste of energy.

The changes he made to my prep are not something negative; they're positive changes that will help me reach my goal of looking my best on stage. Every little change we make in the next 2.5 weeks will positively impact my showing on stage. It's empowering to know that I am in control of how I'll look. By following his plan, I have the power to bring my very best to the stage.

I feel re-energized, re-focused, and determined to take advantage of the time I have in these next 2.5 weeks! I'm going to turn my dreams into my reality.

I've written a lot about the power of positive thinking. What is your experience with it? Have you found it makes a difference in your life?

  1. Hey Kari,
I always try to keep a positive attitude, though I do admit I have my obstacles. Being 48, a single parent, living with my own parent, it's easy for those negative feelings to take hold. I practice positive affirmations on the daily, listen to and read a lot about having a can do attitude and upgrading my standards.

This is also really where a lot of my "online fitness friends" come into focus yourself included. I continually strive to aspire what you ladies have achieved. I admire your strength, attitude, and desire to get better in your sport everyday. The way you girls push yourselves no matter what obstacle comes your way is truly aw-inspiring. You my friend...are GREAT!

    1. Thank you! It sounds like positive affirmations are really having a GREAT effect on your life too!

  2. The momentum is building and you are unstoppable! Standing on the sidelines and cheering you on. You're doing great. Woot!
