Cardio Exploration

One of the wonderful things about not being in prep is the flexibility to do cardio outside of the gym. During prep, we try to minimize as many factors as possible so it's easy to determine when and where changes need to be made. That means I only do cardio on the treadmill. I honestly don't mind it because I get to read or catch up on social media during that time. But when the weather is nice, I want to be outside!

I live in a quaint little town that I'm slowly exploring during my cardio walks. I listen to an audio book while I truck up and down streets, through neighborhoods, and across train tracks. Growing up, we lived on a country road a few miles out of town, so I'm fascinated by neighborhoods and little corner stores. I'm discovering parks and historic homes, a high school track, and beautiful landscaping.

This past weekend, I found myself on a little path through the woods that opened onto a high school track!

Maybe I'll start doing some track workouts now that I know we live only a short distance from the track!

I'm not reading as many books these days, but I'm really enjoying getting to know my little town and all its nooks and crannies.

  1. I love exploring too, but it's something I'm guilty of not doing enough of! I'm about a 60-40 split of doing cardio at the gym and outside, but I find myself doing one of the following: running the same routes and getting in a rut, and/or not taking in the surroundings while running. I think I need to start adding in some evening strolls for peace of mind--thanks for inspiring :)
